First pipeline vessel arrives at the port of Pisco

The first shipment of pipes for the construction of the PERU LNG pipeline arrived at the port of Pisco, Ica, on Thursday night, December 6. The first vessel contains about 24,000 metric tons of pipe, which is approximately 4,448 34" diameter sections.

"The smooth arrival and offloading of these pipelines marks the start of our world-class pipeline construction project," commented Barbara Bruce, General Manager of PERU LNG.

The vessel left India at the end of October and sailed along the coasts of Africa and South America before arriving in the port of Pisco last weekend. In total, the ship's voyage lasted 37 days. Its arrival at the port of Pisco is a remarkable event for the port given that most vessels carry cargo from multiple companies, while this vessel was loaded exclusively with pipelines for the PERU LNG project.

Pipelines from this first shipment will be temporarily stored in Pisco until they are transported directly to the pipeline right-of-way for construction. The pipeline will eventually extend 408 kilometers from the PERU LNG plant on the coast through Huancavelica to Ayacucho, where it will connect to the existing Camisea gas pipeline.

The port of Pisco was one of the areas most affected by the earthquake of August 15, 2007. The regular arrival of PERU LNG's huge vessels over the next year will provide an important economic stimulus to the port area.

PERU LNG is a world-class infrastructure project that will position Peru as a leader in the liquefied natural gas industry in South America. The benefits generated by PERU LNG will be a great stimulus for development and growth for the country and its people.
