The Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) awarded PERU LNG the Green Port Award System 2019, in recognition of its exemplary environmental practices in maritime facilities. The company's terminal is the first port infrastructure to receive this recognition in Peru.
The Green Port Award System 2019 was presented by APEC Port System Network at the meeting held in the city of Cusco, organized by the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation-APEC, in September of this year.
The Green Port Award System was developed by APEC Port Services Network to promote the sustainable development of the port industry located in the APEC region, which includes countries from four continents.
PERU LNG's maritime facility has obtained ISO 9001 certification for its quality management system in the dispatch of Liquefied Natural Gas and the provision of basic port services. It has also obtained ISO 14001 for its environmental management system.
Among the environmental management initiatives implemented by PERU LNG at its port terminal are the construction of the maritime facility in an area that does not affect any sensitive habitat, the implementation of a breakwater that allowed the settlement of marine fauna and a reverse osmosis desalination plant to generate drinking water, the reuse of domestic wastewater, and the development of a biodiversity monitoring program in collaboration with the renowned Smithsonian Institute in the United States.
