Jul 2017

With the financial support of PERU LNG, 1299 schoolchildren and 58 teachers benefit from the Reading Means Keeping Ahead Program (Leer es Estar Adelante) implemented by Fundación BBVA Continental. The program, implemented in 29 public schools in Ayacucho and Huancavelica, is aimed at improving reading comprehension skills among third and six graders.

For the last four years, PERU LNG has been contributing to the educational development of children in 23 schools located in the provinces of Huamanga and La Mar, Ayacucho region;  and since 2016, it has been funding the implementation of this program in six schools located in the province of Huaytará, Huancavelica region.

Last July 14th, the program was presented to the Pilpichaca primary school, in Huancavelica.  Present at the program launching ceremony were Mercedes Castro, from Fundación BBVA Continental; Anderson Cabrera, on behalf of PERU LNG; and Emilio Taype Oré, Mayor of the District of Pilpichaca.

As part of the Reading Means Keeping Ahead program, training is provided to teachers in order to improve their conceptual, teaching, and methodological skills for teaching reading comprehension.   In each case, schoolchildren receive books consistent with the reality of their region. The program also measures the performance of schoolchildren in reading comprehension.

The Reading Means Keeping Ahead program promotes educational development in ten different Peruvian regions. This year, the Ministry of Education included the program’s intervention strategy in the national curriculum.
