Apr 2009

PERU LNG delivers 160 computers, 27 mini libraries and supports training sessions for teachers near the Project.

An agreement to assist in improving the educational quality of schools in the rural communities of Ayacucho was signed by the Regional Government of Ayacucho, the Regional Bureau of Education (DREA), and PERU LNG.

Through this agreement the company will deliver 160 modules of computation, 27 mini libraries, conduct a training workshop for technological leaders and contribute to the funding of teacher training workshops for the UGLEs in La Mar and Huamanga.

“With this contribution, PERU LNG continues its commitment to contribute to the development of communities surrounding the project. We support education because we believe it is essential to the progress of our country,” said Barbara Bruce, General Manager of PERU LNG.

This important contribution will benefit more than 4,400 students from over 38 schools, who can improve their level of learning through technology. Furthermore, the delivery of 27 mini libraries, which include 200 books each, will promote reading. This will contribute to the national “Plan Lector” proposed by the Ministry of Education.

Moreover, technological leaders will be trained in the use and basic maintenance of computers, as well as basic issues in the use of educational software developed by the Ministry of Education. They will be trained by specialists from the prestigious company Advance, a provider of computer equipment that also provides specialized services in technology training, and the staff of the Ministry of Education.

Also, PERU LNG will contribute to the funding of teacher training workshops organized by UGELs of Huamanga and La Mar. Specialists from the Center for Research and Educational Services (CISE) at the Pontificia Universidad Catolica del Peru will contribute to the training through diversification of school curricula to include new topics.

In the coming weeks PCs and libraries will be delivered directly to educational institutions in the Ayacucho region through the Association of Parents (APAFA) who will manage the proper care and protection of new school supplies.

“With this support our schools will be renovated and will better train the school children of our communities,” said Marcelino Vera Lapa, Director of the Educational Institution No. 38405 of Osqoqocha , Anco District, La Mar Province

The signing ceremony attended by Ernesto Molina, Ayacucho Regional President, Mr. Ricardo Arona, Regional Director of Education and Mrs. Barbara Bruce, General Manager of PERU LNG.
