PERU LNG organized conference addressed to parents, teachers and the public in general given by psychologist Roberto Lerner, specialist in treating children, adolescents and families

Among the main concerns of parents who attend the conferences held by PERU LNG since nine years ago, is how to protect children and adolescents in an era of virtual and physical dangers inside and outside the home.

In this context, the company organized in Huamanga, Cañete and Chincha lectures on “How to raise our children in a risky and interesting world”, given by the renowned psychologist Roberto Lerner. Nearly 850 people participated in the events, including parents, teachers and the public in general.

The renowned psychologist Roberto Lerner, said that we are living in a world with many risks, but also opportunities; therefore, parents must take into account that parenting is protecting children, without overprotecting them.  He pointed out that it is not only a question of defining a danger, but also explaining to children what to do when faced with a risky situation.

Lerner, who is head professor of the PUCP and columnist of the “Raising Children” section of Peru 21 newspaper, contends that, although there are risks in the world, there are also options for kids to have a good time.

In the lectures, he highlighted the importance of communicating with children. He pointed out that it is not only necessary to speak with them, but that the key factor is to know how to listen, so that they will later tell their parents what is going on with them, especially in situations that involve some kind of risk.

Among the skills that parents should have, he mentioned: making children feel important and loved, responding to the signals that they send us, accepting them as they are, showing them by example the interest in learning, representing values, establishing routines and rituals, setting limits and, above all, being there for them.

With respect to the development of the conferences, David Lemor, director of Corporate Affairs of PERU LNG said: “It is very rewarding to contribute to meeting the information needs raised by parents at the conferences we organize. This issue concerns us all and we hope that the conferences contribute to providing parents, children and adolescents the tools to identify, prevent and manage risks without losing curiosity about life.”
