First graduating class of Peruvian liquefied natural gas (LNG) plant operators graduates

Graduates of the PERU LNG Training Program at TECSUP will start working at PERU LNG's Natural Gas Liquefaction plant in 2010..

On December 3, PERU LNG celebrated the graduation of the first class of natural gas liquefaction plant operators in South America. The first 42 graduates, all of them Peruvian nationals, were part of the Operations Training Program developed by PERU LNG through the Instituto Tecnológico Superior (TECSUP) and now have international recognition (NVQ2, National Vocational Qualification).

The Operations Training Program is the result of an agreement between PERU LNG and TECSUP, through which the institute received international certifications from the recognized European certifying entities City & Guilds and Edexcel, to develop technical training programs.

"With this training program PERU LNG invested not only in Peruvian personnel through the training of national technicians but has also strengthened local education through TECSUP," said Barbara Bruce, General Manager of PERU LNG.

The participating group was selected by means of demanding academic tests, in which more than 2,900 applicants participated. There were 42 students from different regions of Peru who were admitted to this first training program. Half of the group will start working at PERU LNG's natural gas liquefaction plant in 2010, while the rest of the group will continue studying until completing some additional maintenance training.

The students have followed training programs according to their specialty and have lasted an average of 16 months. The students were able to develop both technical and managerial skills (conflict resolution, coaching, decision making, among others), and were also required to take intensive English courses.

It should be noted that the organization of this program has earned PERU LNG the "Local Workforce Development 2008" award from the CWC Group, an organization dedicated to creating a global community of oil and gas experts.

About PERU LNG Operations Training Program

The PERU LNG Operations Training Program began in 2007. Through this program, TECSUP teachers were trained by international experts. This allowed the institute to achieve the international certification "National Vocational Qualification" (NVQ), guaranteed by the British organization City & Guilds, specialized in the accreditation of professional training, management and engineering. In addition, at the end of their program, students specialized in maintenance will receive a diploma in Operations and Maintenance level 3 from the British organization Edexcel.
