Nov 2017

Haku Wiñay was the Award winner in the Local Development Management category for supporting communities living in extreme poverty in Ayacucho.

The “Chacra Emprendedora – Haku Wiñay” Project implemented by FONCODES and funded by PERU LNG in nine Ayacucho localities received the 2017 Sustainable Development Award granted by the National Society for Mining, Petroleum and Energy (SNMPE) in recognition of the adoption of good social and environmental practices in the hydrocarbon sector within the framework of a sustainable development policy.

The project was the award winner in the Local Development Management category for supporting productive development in communities located within the area of influence of PERU LNG.

The winning project is focused on improving skills, living conditions, and eating habits among poor families living in rural areas by providing training and technical assistance and supplying the inputs required for families to adopt healthy practices and eat nutritious food. This initiative has managed to benefit 283 families living in the localities of Hatunpallcca, Totora, Anchihuay Sierra, Osqoqocha, Qollpa, Allpacorral, Pampanhuaylla, Cochas, and Putacca.

The program has substantially reduced chronic malnutrition and anemia among children under 5 years old, and has also reduced anemia among pregnant women in Anco and San Miguel. So far, the project has funded the implementation of 283 improved stoves, 50 spray irrigation modules, 231 vegetable modules in the countryside, 268 parcels of pastures, 93 small parcels of grains, 60 small parcels of tubers, 187 agroforestry modules, 276 organic fertilizer modules, 244 hen breeding modules, and 213 Guinea pig breeding modules.

Beneficiary families also received technical assistance and were trained in healthy hygiene practices. Families were also given advice on how to organize and keep their homes in order, drink boiled water, efficiently distribute spaces, and properly manage solid wastes.

The “Mi Chacra Emprendedora – Haku Wiñay” project has been implemented within the framework of an agreement signed in 2014 between PERU LNG and the Cooperation Fund for Social Development – FONCODES, pursuant to which the company undertook to fund the full project (100%).

This is the second award received by the “Mi Chacra Emprendedora – Haku Wiñay” project. A few months ago, it received an Award from “Ciudadanos al Día” for its Good Public Management Practices.
