Physician José Luis Pérez-Albela, a surgeon with a master’s degree in natural medicine and a pioneer in integrative medicine in Peru, which is focused on physical and mental health and spiritual wellness, was the keynote speaker.

Dr. Pérez-Albela highlighted the difference between eating, understood as the need to eat food to continue living, and nutrition, understood as the need to get nutrients from foods to live better and grow. He explained that eating food is not enough, as we need to digest food properly, for which purpose our state of mind is of utmost importance. He therefore he told parents to improve meal times with their children.

Dr. Pérez-Albela stressed the nutritional value of traditional products like “cañihua”, “chicha de jora”, sunflower seeds, goat milk, algae and watercress. He mentioned the need to avoid greasy food, salt, condiments and sugar. He recommended cooking cereals and dry beans, like “moron”, lentils, “mote”, broad beans, oats, etc.

“We know that anemia and malnutrition affect many families in Peru. That’s why we have invited Dr. Pérez-Albela, so that he can give us practical tips that will help us take better care of our children”, David Lemor, Director of Corporate Affairs of PERU LNG, said.
